LA E-Learning Task-INTERPERSONAL

Interview with Family Member on Her P.O.V. on "Prejudice" and "Discrimination"

1. What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you hear the words “prejudice” and “discrimination”?
Racial discrimination, Gender Bias, Homosexuality.

2. What do you think is the root cause of societal “prejudice” and “discrimination”? Explain.
The root cause of societal “prejudice” “discrimination” are because of already-existent social norms, beliefs, people have to conform to it. The younger generation are also influenced by the older generation, the family up-bringing makes their mind a perfect breeding ground for “prejudice” and  “discrimination” to take root. Peer Pressure too.

3. Are there any unique forms of societal “prejudice” and “discrimination” in Singapore? Elaborate.
Inter-racial marriages. In Singapore, this is frowned upon as usually, either the bride or the bridegroom has to convert to the religion of his/her spouse. Foreign Workers. For example, some residents complained when it was announced that Foreign Worker Domitories to be built near the residential estates. Generally locals discriminate against foreign workers as the foreign workers are deemed as noisy, rowdy, dirty the place, locals down trod on them as the foreign-workers do manual labour jobs depised by locals.

4. Are there any unique forms of societal “prejudice” and “discrimination” in India? Elaborate.
Caste System. A system that prejudices against people based on their family’s social status. For example, descendents of slave families usually are hived in the slums of India, while descendents of rich families live in the urban dwellings, wealthy districts.

5. Are there any unique forms of societal “prejudice” and “discrimination” in America? Elaborate.
Muslims in America are discriminated as in America, many people are against the jihad terrorist groups, hence Muslims are prejudiced as violent people with radical beliefs, hence usually for example, Muslim Children are shunned by other parents to mingle with other children, as parents probably fear that the Muslim children would influence their child in a negative way, or for Muslims, it is quite hard to find jobs as Muslims are associated with radical jihadists, like Al-Quaeda. (yay found something not related to racial tension between coloured folk and whites)

6. Why do you think these members of society have been “prejudiced” and “discriminated” generally?
Usually because of their social status, eg. The family they are born into or because what they are doing is taboo.

7. Even people with good intentions, are implicated in societal “prejudices” and “discrimination”.  Elaborate.
Religious workers etc. Family of the prejudiced, discriminated person.

My Learning Profile

These ara my scores for the multiple intelligiences test. And in no less than 100 words, let's do a personal take othe implications of this test. Actually, I find the test a bit inaccurate, as there are not enough questions. How do you find out your true abilities by answering a bunch of questions. It is seriously not very accurate. In addition, the only responses are rarely to frequently, it is not fair to those who belong in the middle range ad they are unsure of which option to pick, due to short-term memory. Not only that but, answering a bunch of question does not work! For example Spatial, at least illustrate your point by providing visual diaagrams, not just words?! Naturalist, people only know if they are passionate about nature if the MI draws from their pathos, provide those who have not  in contact with nature before with pictures at least. People with no experience obviously are the worst-judged? Do they put rarely? If they haven't experienced applying the intelligience,, ow do they know if that intelligience is in their nature. These are limitations of the MI,,and also for any thr surveys trying to gauge our learning abilities, styles, character, etc.  THat's why these form of surveys are not accurate.

LA E-Learning Task- INTRAPERSONAL

Write a diary entry for a major character of the novel.

Dear Diary,

School isn't that great after all is it? For months I had eagerly awaited for the privilege of going to school. In fact, I had never looked forward more to anything in my life. Peeking over the schoolyard from the cozyness of the treehouse, School seemed so fun. I longed to join them.

Sadly, my enthusisam was rapidly doused, Jem was right. School certainly was very different. My teacher, Miss Caroline Fisher, wants me to stop reading and writing. I don't know how to stop reading and writing. As far as I could remember,  reading just came to me, whenever I sat with Atticus every evening, the words on the Mobile Register just seemed to form vague meanings in my head. How does one stop breathing? Miss Caroline probably misunderstood and thought Atticus had taught me how to read. She got all the facts wrong! Atticus hasn't been teaching me to read! Jem says that she was trying to introduce the Dewey Decimal System. For one thing, it was all very boring to me. The class yawned in silence. Anyway, does not she know that the class was immune to imaginative literature? Doing rugged work from young, the class was squirming in the seats.

Calpurnia got me into trouble with Miss Fisher too. She had caught me writing a letter to Dill and requested for Atticus again, to stop teaching me. Calpurnia was to blame for all this. Maybe it kept me from driving her crazy on rainy days, but she would set me a writing task to reproduce her penmanship. During lunch too, why she was so fussy about my treatment of Walter Cunningham? A Cunningham, after all, was a Cunningham. That was the truth, I was not trying to be high and mighty. Calpurnia was too agitated, in a sense, aren't table manners an indispensable behaviour? Walter downed all his food in syrup, I just pointed that out. In fact, earlier that day, I tried to be kind to Walter by graciously standing up on his behalf and explaining to Miss Caroline the difficult situation she is putting Walter in. And the acknowledgement for my efforts? Being grabbed by the collar and "whipped" sure was quite "sweet". Yet, I still don't get Calpurnia: after school, she seemed to expertly sense that my day was a grim one and wanted to make up with me. At least she had seen the error of her fractious ways, but displayed it through affection and probably too stubborn to say sorry. In any case, Atticus always sides with Calpurnia, and mulling on his opinion that we could not operate a day without Calpurnia, it was very true. Maybe I should help Calpurnia by not troubling her, that's the least I could do.

Should I go to school? Miss Caroline wants me to stop reading and writing! Come to think of it, I cannot pass life without both! I tried to reason with Atticus that I should not go to school as the Dewey Decimal System could make me learn nothing. I substantiated my arguement with the example of the Ewells, but Atticus said that the Ewells had been the disgrace of Maycomb for decades, impending my hopes to skip school as obviously what the Ewells did was wrong. Atticus also made my realise that I had to empathise with Miss Coline as she was new to Maycomb. I do feel pity for her as she was reprimanded sharply by a next-door teacher for not being able to control the racket in the class. I should give her a chance as Miss Caroline was trying to integrate into Maycomb's community. I did learn one thing today, to put my self in the other person's shoes, that is a very effective method of understanding other people.

In short, maybe the day wasn't too bad after all, Atticus also compromised with me that we would continue reading every evening  if I attended school, and we considered the agreement sealed without the usual formality.

Yours Truly,
Scout

Take on Internet Censorship in China

Now pay attention, guys and gals, this stuff's important...

Internet Censorship has entered a whole new level in the world's most populous country, hence it is unequivocal that Crabby enlightens you on this topic. China has been ruled by the Chinese Communist Party for over 5 decades already, so Crabby will infer you have already guessed that everything is government controlled, eg. the economy, merchandise, media, imported goods etc.

Now, the cliche factor is that China has heavily restricted the use of the Internet, especially those Western-influenced websites. Why? There are 2 main reasons. Firstly, the issue of control of info-tainment. The government usually advocates China-made films, hence it is the same story with the Internet. It is a Communist country with Communist ideologies after all. The government wants to stop the influx of Western ideologies into China as it wants to preserve China's traditionalism, its culture. It does not want China's culture, lifestyles to be influenced by Western Stuff. That's why the government only wants an Internet that can be regulated. Hence, if it allows access to foreign websites, the foreign websites are out of control, so China has a very strict policy.

Secondly, the issue of pornography. Duh, it is so obvious that this is extremely unhealthy and Crabby is always so sure that the Chinese government had sound moral intentions to ban this. However, the ban is over-exaggerated and thus comes about the "Great Wall of China". What is the Great Wall of China, some of you might ask, it is basically a firewall that blocks every thing the government does not want the citizens to see in essence. In fact, I feel that the Chinese Government is being too over-protective of its people. It rejects porn so much that even frivolous things are banned. Yes, the Chinese Government means well for its people and seeks to keep the people from immoral temptations, yet, the Internet Filter is a controversy in the contents it filters, some Chinese netizens say that even Garfield Pictures are deemed as immoral?! Is it a problem with the software, the filter? Or maybe the government needs to approach the matter from another angle, to be able to deal with this heated issue more effectively,

This leads me to my next point on what is the result of Internet Censorship, Crabby muses. Like Hillary Clinton has said, the cybersphere is something to be shared and an information database for all, not something to be controlled in such a way that some parts are hidden and the true enjoyment of browsing is not experienced by the Internet user. The situation in China is that by not exposing the people to what the world is like outside China, the next generation might not be better equipped to adapt to the real world. Sometimes, knowing about other foreign cultures in depth can make one feel even more proud of his country's national identity, they would also know what to expect if they land a career in foreign countries. China is too over-protective of its people, but the reality is that every individual should have a global perspective and a holistic point of view. At the end of the day, the fact that Western culture would have a stronger impact on China is inevitable, as change is nature, the Chinese Government should instead go about the problem by advocating things in the Internet that are beneficial to the people, even if it comes from Western sources, the people should be the primary welfare concern,

To end of, China has a very large cyber-community of netizens, hence as Internet access is abundant, if the government really rejects Western ideals, or seeks to stop sexual immorality from polluting the minds of the people, instead of just directly filtering the alleged websites, maybe it should educate its people about how to use the Internet meaningfully and responsibly, or caution the people about following Western Culture, like how it affects China's culture etc., so that the people can understand the government's intentions, after all, isn't a prevention better than a cure? Please feel free to voice your comments

Radio Snippets 1

Hi again, this is Crabby, hoping we could talk more...

China needs to clean up its tainted and tarnished image. China needs to garner the full support from its people, their trust is quintessential, such that its netizens would instead portray, spread the word, that the Chinese Government is "the best government we could have asked for". And this leads me to my next point about the importance of an "ideal government" in China. In China's case, see how bad governing has ruined many provinces? The corrupted local officials frequently squeeze money out of the extremely poor villagers, bribery is a part of everyone's daily life and this is not at all helped by the fact that even the superiors'of the officials are corrupted too!

How should/could the government polish its reputation then to radiate the true brilliance and spanking cleanliness of China?  The very good news for the people of China is that China's Corruption Bureau have been putting a lot of effort in weeding out the corrigible figures in the government and their efforts have not been futile. This is a very appropriate policy by the government to curb corruption by taking a no-nonsense stance on the matter. While I acknowledge the Chinese Government's sense of initiative, it is also necessary to build on this first step, such that there will be almost zero-corruption. Yes, the cold, hard, harsh truth is that corruption is never ending, greed is part of human nature. Therefore, the Chinese Government needs to inculcate in its officials the sense of duty and responsibility, if not, appoint incorrigible role models to the right posts for a start; the Chinese are very patriotic people, the officials need to be reminded of the consequences of their actions, resound in their soul the love for their nation and how they could contribute back to society as officials, not negatively but positively, for the people.

The Sport Celebrity, The Junkie

It is Galaxy News Radio you are tuning in to now, Crabby proudly declares.

Crabby knows you are thirsty for more emo, the posts so far have been under 500 words, so Crabby will gladly grant your request and make sure that you will stay thirsty for more....

*Dropping off the Crabby Persona*

It's the latest things in the sports buzz, reporters risking everything to get the scraps of information, journalists all heated up for the latest scoop of.......sex scandals. Tiger Woods, John Terry have all fallen victim to this completely senseless compulsive disorder, hence the big question is why sport celebrities? The answer is extremely simple, bad influence, I mean, how else will you be lured into temptation? Usually it is friends and peers etc. who hypnotize you into those bars, those clubs, once you are ensnared in the web, you are well and truly screwed my fellow sport celebrity.

Come to think of it, why doesn't the Sport Celebrity repent, especially those with a family turn out to be bigger scams? They have become junkies, both sides of it. At first glance, they are the perfect sport junkie, excelling in their sport, yet on the other side, they are the drug-user junkie, getting on high on the drug of womanising and partying. This is really creepy, with higher concern for those sport celebrities who have families as being a junkie shocks the world. Why can't Sport Celebrities be trusted with women, the burning question....

The answer lies in their fame and popularity. With fame comes power and influence, hence the sportsman feels like they can do anything they want as they are elevated to a demi-god status. They don't harbour any shred of regret at all for any wrong actions as their mindset is "so what? I am more powerful than you, I have the right to do anything". Their beliefs have become polluted. I mean, put your self in Tiger Wood's shoes for example, the roar of the crowd as you lift up the US Open Trophy, your record-breaking 15 Major, you can feel the support of your millions of fans, you feel incredible like everyone adores you, this is really the stage when the sportsman must exercise tremendous responsibility, should you abuse your fame, power, I am quite sure that in Tiger Wood's mind when he had his first adultery, he was thinking to himself,

"Ah yah, look, everybody loves me, how can it be wrong to do this, do that, everything I do will have no negative effect whatsoever as my sponsers know that need me, the world needs me, that's how important I am to the world, as if they will put me down, look at the revenue gained from my advertising, priceless I would deem."

This first behaviour shows that the Sport Celebrity is so blinded by his fame and influence that he sees himself as "irreplaceable", hence all sense of moral values and ethnics are destroyed just because he thinks that his sponsers would back him all the way.

or "Hey, a guy needs a break here man, can't anybody around here relax? What harm can a bit of fun do after all? In the end, I am only human-natured. Everybody should understand my feelings, after winning like countless Majors, I am sure my fans trust me and love me. I won't go overboard of course, I can control myself."

This second behaviour shows that the Sport Celebrity feels that he can control his indulgences and balance his squeaky-clean image of a scandal-free person at the same time. This is absolutely the wrong mindset because temptation always leads you deeper into the trap. Especially in Tiger Wood's case, he is perceived as a family man, yet in the end, the number of mistresses who surfaced was shocking.

OR [Thank you Mark for the Comment!]

It may be the case that fame and popularity plays no part in influencing the Sport Celebrity to sin, but rather it is just due to human nature. Tiger Woods sinned because he was seduced as other typical men and hence fell into the trap. This could be possible as maybe in Tiger Woods' case, he feels stressful maintaining his image as a role model and hence sought for a opportunity to vent his true feelings. Why not? In this age, marriages are frequently put to the test as nowadays, there are many forms of temptation that leads the men astray. Yes,  it has been proven statistically that men who just cannot control themselves are the root of most divorces. So, at the end of the day, the Sport Celebrity is just like us too, they definitely aren't infallible as everyone goes through the temptations of life.

OR

The last feasible possibility is that the Sport Celebrity had several traumatic childhood experiences, and thus developed a sex addiction disorder. This is the only unique case that calls for the world to sympathize with the Sport Celebrity, he feels very stressful and usually keeps his problems to himself as he does not want the world to find out. In this kind of context, we should encourage the celebrity and try to understand what he is going through. As Atticus says in TKAM, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it."

South Park has a very good example of Atticus's perspective, take some time to watch http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/164365

Then you should see an adaptation of the episode in youtube.

To end of, I feel that with Sport Celebrities, they are usually influenced by the implications of their fame, and human nature, both of which are extremely worrying as it shows the trend of the Sport Celebrity's Life inadvertently leading to scandal and disaster. However, sadly, there is no medicine for this kind of Sport Celebrity Junkie Disorder. The final choice to take which path is up to the athlete himself. Crabby is extremely emo about this, but this is the reality of human character, Never Infallible, but never Fallible at the same time if you choose to be.

Lol, what a pragmatic, cynic perspective towards life, but after all, Singaporeans are pragmatic people..

I am King Crabby, always bringing the most emo scoop, no matter how bad it hurts...

explaining the Crab theme (continued...from last year)

Dear netizens, I have faced criticism from my friends as in why my blog is so weird and why my sudden interest in crabs so just let me IIIuminate you, impart you with my understanding to clear any misconception.
So, I have to explain the whole process, *sigh* ok I just wanted a theme for my blog and I just chose 'crab' primarily because it rhymes with 'crap' -its a fun pun and 'crabtalker' may appear to be a person who talks crap and drones monotonously about meaningless issues or just simply the opinion and words of a crab. Which is the true hidden, secret, invisible, inferential meaning of the theme , I just leave it up to you to decide based on my tone, context and expressions of my posts.
Does this sound cool and like a riddle because to me the blog is supposed to be a mystery to netizens and I want my writing style to suit the technological age and not be locked in the cultural norms of the 20th century when the compuiter was invented and everyone goes,"Hello, my name is blahblahblah, my hobbies are blahblahblahblahblahblah..." and that is so ultra geeky to me, too nerdy and innocent and insted, the posts should captivate the reader's attention by means of topics that are relevant to the reader and sets the reader into reflection on communities boons and banes etc.
Of course, I may sound like a nerd when talking about my field trip but sometimes, I have to share with you these experiences explicitly as I feel that they appeal to different catergories of audience and are intrigueing, so I will definitely post something unless I feel that it is interesting as I also want to spend my time more efficiently and not waste my time-Time is so precious and should not be squandered and so that is all for today,

Phew, got that all out of my shell,
Crabby, aka. Revolutionaryfox
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ha! A new personality from the older Crabby, hey guys and gals, yes, you are tuned in to Galaxy News Radio where the Crab rules supreme. No, actually it is nothing that fun to be a Crab, Crabby just chose it because it is sorta of a personification pun on the word "crap". Yah, as explained on the top, well, how about bogspace, I just love to talk about it, but you can go to the bog to find out more. What else, is there to explain, aha! I promised an emo post, so here goes.....

Junkie, what is the definition of a junkie, why does Crabby even call itself a junkie. According to wikipedia, Junkie actually usually means a guy who abuses drugs, no, Grief and Sorrow, experiencing by Crabby it is now, Crabby is definitely not that kind of person. Drugs, heck, getting high, yes Crabby loves emoing, but drugs is detrimental to even the hard-shelled crab! Why do people even take drugs in the first place, they are addicted, but who exactly are those heartless people who gave it them, definitely empty-shelled. The true. hidden meaning of Junkie is a person who is extremely eager, excited by something, that is Crabby. The adrenaline rush when emoing in what you are passionate about is the real "getting high", not drugs. The Junkie is the person to be admired, the passionate, self-motivated spirit towards life is to be role-modelled, yes, those are my honest opinion. Let's not put down the Junkie
, you do what you love, that's why its cool to be a Junkie, that's the spirit, land-sapiens!!!

Yah, got to go, see you next time for more Radio Emo

Welcome to My Revamped 2010 Blog

Hi, its Crabby here tuning in *live* from Galaxy News Radio. After a long........ break, Crabby is back and extremely enthusiastic, am looking forward, dying to get you rejuvenated! So, what has happened so far during my vacation, hmm... The stock market crashed, revived and crashed again, Copenhagen Summit emitted more CO2 than the pledges in the Accord could cover, and most importantly, it is the start of a new academic year for Crabby! Hey Do you like the new Muse-sic? The jazz is quite fantastic do you agree? It compliments Crabby's character so well, Crabby floats up to the sky and lazes on the cluds..Ah.....The ideal utopia. Let's talk more about this form of jazz, Crabby feels that contemporary jazz definitely cannot beat this 1950's retro man..., what Crabby is trying to emphasize is the beauty of old-fashioned things, one should embrace the past as those days, life was not strangled by modernity of mankind, life was sanctuary, you could talk about the Cold War, horrors of WWII, US vs USSR during that period; but this adds more to the mood of the songs then, people yearned for peace and tranquility in the natural balance in the world, they sang their hearts out, Crabby is so touched. Ok, one should get emotional in this radio but that's enough of dwelling in the past. Well, so this is the blog to tune in, guys and gals, so I hope my hit-counter reaches 1 million soon....

This is Crabby signing off, tune in next time to hear more emo posts....
